Lake Amistad's original guide, Ray Hanselman Jr., is a full-time professional Lake Amistad native fisherman with over 30 years of experience and more than 20 years of guiding experience as an Amistad bass fishing guide. He specializes in black bass and has perfected the latest tournament techniques. Ray was a contender in the 2020 and 2022 B.A.S.S. Bassmaster Classic and currently competes in the National Professional Fishing League (NPFL).
As one of the most versatile fishing guides in Texas, Ray enjoys helping a father-son duo catch their first limit on Lake Amistad or assisting a seasoned tournament fisherman in mastering the nuances of a new fishing technique that might typically require several trips to perfect. His attention to detail is immediately evident and appreciated by all his clients.
Ray has enjoyed a successful tournament career, fishing in events like the FLW Forrest Wood Cup, Basschamps, B.A.S.S. Bassmaster Elite Series, and currently the NPFL. He has made numerous appearances on shows such as Fishing and Hunting Texas, Americana Outdoors, The Chevy Sportsman, Buckmasters, Bone Collector, and Trophy Hunters TV. Various articles in BassMaster, Texas Fish and Game, Honeyhole, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and Texas Monthly have highlighted Ray as an excellent fisherman and premier Lake Amistad fishing guide.
